Brief History & Facts Pursuant to PNDC Law 321, which has been replaced with Polytechnic ACT 745, of 2007, Bolgatanga Polytechnic was established in 1999 but began its academic programmes in September 2003.
The main campus of the Polytechnic is located in Sumbrungu near Bolgatanga, the capital of Upper East Region of Ghana. The Polytechnic started work at the former Meat Marketing Company building in Buker, a suburb of Bolgatanga. The building was eventually acquired for the Polytechnic which became its first permanent site.
The Polytechnic operated from this site where it recruited its pioneer staff and also introduced its first academic programmes until in 2007 when it relocated to its new site in Sumbrungu on the Bolgatanga – Navrongo highway. Over the years, the Polytechnic has grown in terms of infrastructure, staff numbers, and qualification, academic programmes as well as student numbers.
