Ghana Flag

A National Pledge is an oath taken by a country that is usually recited at public events. It is one of the civic items taught to students since their early years in school. The National Pledge is usually printed on the first page of the textbooks and delivered during flag raising ceremonies, independence celebrations and other civic events.

Ghana National Pledge is a solemn promise by the people to serve their country with devotion and according to their skills and talents. If you observe the words of the Pledge closely you will get the essence of what is important to this Nation.

Below is the official Ghana National Pledge accompanied by the National Anthem below it.

THE GHANA NATIONAL PLEDGE

I promise on my honour

to be faithful and loyal to Ghana my motherland.

I pledge myself to the service of Ghana

with all my strength and with all my heart.

I promise to hold in high esteem our heritage,

won for us through the blood and toil of our fathers;

and I pledge myself in all things

to uphold and defend the good name of Ghana.

So help me God.

GHANA NATIONAL ANTHEM

Ghana National Anthem – First Stanza

God bless our homeland Ghana
And make our nation great and strong,
Bold to defend forever
The cause of Freedom and of Right;
Fill our hearts with true humility,
Make us cherish fearless honesty,
And help us to resist oppressors’ rule
With all our will and might for evermore

Ghana National Anthem – Second Stanza

Hail to thy name, O Ghana,
To thee we make our solemn vow:
Steadfast to build together
A nation strong in Unity;
With our gifts of mind and strength of arm,
Whether night or day, in the midst of storm,
In every need, whate’er the call may be,
To serve thee, Ghana, now and evermore.

Ghana National Anthem – Third Stanza

Raise high the flag of Ghana
and one with Africa advance;
Black star of hope and honour
To all who thirst for liberty;
Where the banner of Ghana freely flies,
May the way to freedom truly lie;
Arise, arise, O sons of Ghana land
And under God march on for evermore!

GHANA PATRIOTIC SONG LYRICS

Ghana Patriotic Song – First Stanza

Twi Version

Yɛn ara asaase ni;

Ɛyɛ aboɔden de ma yεn,
Mogya a nananom hwie gui;
Nya de too hɔ maa yɛn,
Adu me ne wo nso so,

Sε yɛbɛyɛ bi atoa so.

English Version

This is our own native land;
What a priceless heritage,
Acquired with the blood our ancestors shed for us;
It is now our turn to continue what our ancestors started,
Know-it-all behavior, cheating and selfishness;
Has scarred our character and diminished our affection for our land.

Ghana Patriotic Song – Second Stanza

Nimdeɛ ntraso, nkoto-kranne;

Ne apɛ-sɛ-me-nko-minya,
Adi yɛn bra mu dεm, ma yɛn asase ho dɔ atom’ sɛɛ.

Chorus 2x:

Ɔman no, sɛ ɛbɛyɛ yie o;

English Version

Bragging of educational achievements;

Or useless greed for material things, And bad lifestyles are destroying our nation, and disgracing it.

Chorus 2x:
Whether or not this nation prospers!
Whether or not this nation prospers!;
Clearly depends on the character of the citizens of the nation.

Whether or not this nation prospers!
Whether or not this nation prospers!

Clearly depends on the character of the citizens of the nation.

Ghana Patriotic Song – Third Stanza

Obedience and respect;
Caring for the welfare of one another every day,
Selflessness in the traditional way;
Ensures each person’s welfare,
That is what will bring peace and prosperity to our nation.

Whether or not this nation prospers!
Whether or not this nation prospers!
Clearly depends on the character of the citizens of the nation.
