Colleges of Education Re-Opening Date 2018/2019… The Ghana Colleges of Education resumption date for the commencement of academic activities for the 2018/2019 academic year has been announced.

Colleges of Education in the Country shall commence their First Semester on January 13, 2019.

ghstudents.com can confirm that the October 2018 reopening date for the beginning of the first semester of the 2018/19 Academic year has been cancelled to make way for  a new Academic Calendar.

The reason for the cancellation of the first semester reopening date for the Colleges of Education has been due to the one-month strike action by the members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and a subsequent shut down of all public Colleges of Education in the Country.

The First  Semester is expected to begin 13th January 2019 with some changes i the Academic Calendar.

Students are expected to take their End of First Semester Examination from March 30 to April 13th 2019 and vacate on April 13,2019. Second Semester is expected to begin May 6,2019.

Shut Down of Colleges of Education

Principals of the 46 Colleges of Education in the country had been directed to shut down the schools indefinitely.

This followed the failure of tutors of the Colleges to call off their over 21 days old strike.

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), is in the fourth week of an indefinite strike declared following the failure to reach an agreement with the government on the payment of their Interim Market Premium as well as Book and Research allowances.

NLC orders CETAG to call off Strike

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ordered teachers of Colleges of Education in the country to call off their strike and resume duty immediately.

According to a statement issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on December 3,2018., which is supposed to be the Commission’s ruling on the matter between the College of Education Teachers and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) ,the NLC ordered that both parties should return to the negotiation table within five (5) working days starting Monday,December 10,2018.

The Commission has also directed government and all the parties involved the protracted market premium impasse to resolve the issue within 14 working days upon commencement.

CETAG STRIKE

CETAG called off its 24 academic days strike action following the compulsory arbitration by the National Labour Commission(NLC) ordering striking teachers at the various Colleges of Education to return to the negotiation table.

The striking teachers of the Colleges of Education after a National Executive Committee meeting resolved to return to their posts, while the process for an amicable settlement of their issues continues.
